Characters:
Oliver:
Oliver is a 13 year old boy and the main protagonist of the series. He is a resident Motorville with his mother Arie who dies. While he was grieving of his mother's death, a doll his mother gave him comes to life and reveals his name is Drippy. He tells Oliver he can bring his mother back to life by traveling into an alternate world parallel to his own.
Drippy:
Drippy (Shizuku in the Japanese version) is a Great Fairy from the Ni no Kuni world who was transformed into a doll and banished to Earth by the Black Mage.
After returning to life, he introduces Oliver to the art of magic and offers to guide Oliver to the Ni No Kuni world, aiding him in his attempt to rescue his mother in exchange for Oliver's help in battling the Black Mage. Extremely frank and casual, Drippy accompanies Oliver through thick and thin. Though he was a full party member with fighting skills in the DS version, in the PS3 version Drippy does not normally take part in battle and serves in an advisory and support role.
Esther:
Esther is a songstress who befriends Oliver and Drippy and helping the team. Her real world version is name Shelly, a sick girl who won't leave her house.
Swaine:
The lanky and lithe Swaine is deft of hand, making him a natural pickpocket. He isn't much for tasks that take much effort, but something about Oliver touches his heart.
